PURPOSEBack to top of page

The purpose of the School for Urban Cross-Cultural Church Planting is to equip church plant teams who intend to plant indigenously-led churches among America’s urban poor.

When a team has been formed, and a target area identified, the five-day School will help teams begin planting the church immediately after returning to their city.

The School focuses on:

  • Helping the team develop a strategic plan
  • Empowering the team to become field-responsive
  • Building team cohesiveness
  • Evaluating and certifying teams

FORMATBack to top of page

The focus of the five-day School is on the development of the team’s strategic plan. Teaching is geared toward the development of the team’s vision and strategy. Most of the schedule is devoted to team exercises and discussions.

Since much of the church planting effort is related to spiritual warfare and devotion to Christ, we have a strong emphasis on worship and prayer.

Teams are guided by World Impact coaches who will help the teams and evaluate their readiness to plant the church when the team returns home. Teams will interact with other church plant teams, gathering encouragement and ideas.

All team members are strongly encouraged to stay for the entire time in order to build team unity and to finish their strategic plan together.

Because of the rare opportunity for the team to have five days of uninterrupted prayer and planning, the School is geared to adults only. Sorry, no childcare is provided.

WHO IS INVITED?Back to top of page

Because the School focuses on team development, only teams are invited (no individuals). We welcome teams from churches and denominations.

At minimum, a team must send both the Team Leader and the overseer/supervisor (we call them the Multiple Team Leader). We encourage all other team members to attend.

COST

  • $485 per person for meals, housing and materials. (Scholarships may be available)
  • Travel to Wichita, KS is at your expense (we provide transportation to and from the airport)

PRE-REQUISITESBack to top of page

Before your team attends the School, you will need to complete the following prerequisites:

  • Choose a Team Leader and Multiple Team Leader (MTL) (someone who will supervise the Team Leader). Both the Team Leader and MTL must be in attendance.
  • Choose a Target Area.
  • Read School for Urban Cross-Cultural Church Planting prerequisites pamphlet.
  • Watch a DVD introducing World Impact's view of urban ministry, entitled "A Vision for Empowering the Urban Poor." Those who have attended World Impact's Crowns of Beauty Conference have fulfilled this pre-requisite.

In our teaching at the School, we will assume that each team member in attendance has confessed Jesus Christ as Savior, is living in fellowship with other believers, has a desire to plant a church among the urban poor, has read the entire Bible, and is able to lead someone to Christ.

WHAT TO BRINGBack to top of page

Your team will need a laptop personal computer to record the results of your work. You will also need your Bible and pertinent documents for reference such as information about your initial target area and demographics.
