Welcome to NewarkTo many people Newark represents a series of highway exits they try to avoid or a stop that their commuter train makes on its way under the Hudson River to New York City, and to many others Newark is home. It has been rated the most dangerous city in America, and the worst city in which to raise children. But to God, it is a place that Jesus Christ would visit today to impart His limitless grace, mercy and love.

World Impact Newark's ministry center is located at the corner of First Street and Sussex Avenue, just blocks away from the site of the 1967 racial riots. From the top of the building the gaping hole in the New York city skyline cannot be missed. Newark has always been a city of immigrants, and today is a multi cultural city (52% Black, 30% Hispanic, 14% White).

In 1976 World Impact was invited to take over the Bible club ministry of the Evangelistic Committee of Newark. Today, World Impact Newark's ministry has expanded from Bible clubs to include the Newark Christian School, the Newark Support Services and church-planting teams and partnerships with denominations to plant churches.

World Impact - Newark's Mission Statement

We advance God's kingdom through salvation in Jesus Christ among the unchurched poor in Newark's metropolitan area by evangelizing, educating, discipling and empowering people leading to self-led, maturing, and reproducing churches.

World Impact - Newark's Vision Statement

We seek to nurture and take part in a church plant movement in our region.

Church Plants

World Impact's church planting ministry includes both missionary church plant teams and church plant partnerships.

Partnerships

The Potter's House: The Potter's House is a Christian & Missionary Alliance affiliate, which meets in World Impact's ministry center. In 2000, the church installed Newark native Phil Gilmore as its first pastor. While a student at Alliance Theological Seminary, Phil received the vision of using small groups to allow inner-city believers to experience a Christian community the way God intended.

Church Plant Teams: We are in the process of developing healthy church plant teams. If you desire more information about joining us in our church planting efforts and in being part of a healthy team, please contact Frank Schultz

The Newark Christian School

StudentPerhaps one of the shining stars of the Newark ministry is the Newark Christian School, started in 1984, which serves children in grades K-6 from families who could not otherwise afford private schooling. Newark Christian School cultivates academic competence, self-confidence and Christ-like character in the lives of students. Like all World Impact schools, NCS prepares its graduates to take advantage of educational opportunities and make positive contributions to the Kingdom of God. Many NCS graduates are accepted by the best private and public schools in the Newark area. Just recently some students from the very first graduating class graduated from college. The Newark Support Services

The Newark Support Services (NSS) serves the church plant ministries and surrounding community in several ways. In July and August, NSS conducts a summer day camp/learning center that has a distinctively Christian focus and ties into our church plant ministries. During the school year, NSS holds an after-school program. As parents move into the workforce, they need a safe, affordable place for their children until they get home from work. The after-school program gives missionaries an opportunity to work more closely with community families. Throughout the year NSS runs "bag and tag" sales where they sell donated items as well as new merchandise. The festive atmosphere of the Saturday sales allows missionaries to engage shoppers in conversations about the gospel. NSS also runs a job training program in which trainees develop productive work habits and skills and learn how to make their employment a vehicle for serving God.

Needs of our ministry

Staffing needs: We welcome applicants for missionary positions as church planters, school teachers, office staff and maintenance personnel. Volunteers are also needed in all our ministry areas.

Ongoing needs: Financial support for missionaries, sponsors for school children, new or used vehicles in reliable-good condition, appliances in good working condition, good used clothing and furniture, doctors and dentists willing to offer their services to missionary families without charge or at reduced rates.

Work groups are also needed to help us remodel and maintain our buildings. If you have skills in plumbing, electrical, drywalling, painting, sewer repair, or roofing, please contact Ron Klaassen
