Reparations

No matter how many times we prepare for the summer, plan for camps, and begin our teen swim outreaches, we are always encouraged by how the Lord guides us! We welcomed nine college and adult interns and 12 teen interns into our summer program. Dee, who grew up in the Hidalgo Community in Fresno, CA, will be facilitating the teen interns. They will be operating Bible clubs in four communities, planning a teen outreach each week, going as counselors to camp at The Oaks, tackling a variety of work projects, working in the thrift store, and more! Camp is an important time for us. We would value your prayers over these weeks. Here are the camp dates:

July 12-17 4-6th Grade
July 19-24 Junior High
July 26-31 Senior High
August 7-9 Family Camp

Specifically, we ask that you pray for safety, decisions for Christ, deepening faith and trust in those who know Christ, healing for emotional and spiritual wounds that many bring with them, and last, but truly important, RAIN.

In May we hosted a Bike Repair Day with Northside Christian Church. Families brought bikes to be repaired, and while they waited, we were able to talk and connect with parents. One father shared that his kids were placed in foster care, and he and his wife were working to be reunited with them. The guilt and shame were palpable as he spoke, “We made mistakes, but we’re trying to make things right now. We want to be good parents.”

We were able to share with him the story about the woman caught in adultery where Jesus tells the crowd, “He who is without sin, cast the first stone.” We talked about how we need Jesus to be our guide in parenting. We prayed for him and will continue to follow up with him and his family. It was a beautiful thing to watch the families relaxing and enjoying each other while they ate and played in the yard. We were also able to give away a bike to one of our Bible club kids. Herra comes to tutoring and Bible club every Tuesday and Thursday. His mom Carla has been coming to the women’s Bible study. It was a joy to bless their family in this simple way.
