Only a thriving local church can give a community of poverty the hope it desperately needs.

Knowing Christ and being in fellowship with other believers through a local body is the only complete answer to the problems under-resourced communities face.

We believe that trained urban pastors and leaders produce healthy urban churches which nurture flourishing neighborhoods.

The Inside the Urban Church report’s findings demonstrate that this is not just theory, but reality.

It’s our hope that the information gained through this report can be a blessing – to you, your ministry, and your community.

I invite you to get to know your local World Impact representatives below.

Meet Daren Busenitz

Senior Vice President of Ministry Mobilization

Daren came to Christ at a young age and then dedicated his life to the calling of Christ on his life in junior high. He received his call to missions while in high school and became a missionary with World Impact after graduating from Moody Bible Institute in 1999. He joined the Wichita staff and became a church-plant team leader in April 2000. In 2005, Daren became the Wichita Church Plant Director, which included overseeing three church plants in transition.

In June 2008, Daren provided leadership in starting the newest church plant, Christ the Victor, with the vision to start a movement of multiplying churches among the urban poor. The church began in his basement and has since multiplied a Spanish-speaking church and several churches starting in other cities.

In February 2009, Daren took on the role of Wichita City Director and oversaw the Wichita ministry. In July 2013, Daren took over the role of Regional Director of Ministry of World Impact, Midwest. In 2016, Daren became the Midwest Regional Vice President and in 2019, he became the SVP of Ministry Mobilization and continues in this role presently as he oversees a team of ministry developers finding and resourcing church leaders in communities of poverty.

Daren and his wife, Tina, welcomed their first child, Jackson, on September 6, 2009; their second, Justus, on August 11, 2012; and their third, Caden, on July 6, 2018.

Meet Yvonne Tejeda

Regional Development Director

Yvonne is a California native and grew up in the inner city of Los Angeles 2.3 miles away from the World Impact office.

Growing up in a single parent household had its challenges, but it also built a tenacious will towards overcoming obstacles.

Yvonne was the first in her family to go to college and it currently getting her master’s degree in business administration. She is also a Certified Fund Raising Executive with 16 years of nonprofit experience.

Her walk with God started at a young age, but it wasn’t until college that she learned the importance of having a personal relationship with Jesus.

Becoming a Christian changed the trajectory of her life and that is where her passion to connect with people and be a part of God’s heart for the poor emerged. She has been a part of two mission teams and served as a Peace Corps volunteer for two years in Guatemala.

She has been married for 11 years and she and her husband Anthony planted a small church in Whittier, CA where she now lives. They have two adopted boys, Ryan now 10 years old and Caleb 6. Yvonne valiantly wears many hats as a mother, wife, and women’s ministry leader all while pursuing a career.

Meet Juan Carlos Morarie

Senior Vice President of Programs

Juan Carlos is a native of Colorado, who grew up in a multicultural home as the son of a Bolivian missionary kid (MK) and Mexican immigrant.

He spent his childhood summers living with his family in Colima, Mexico where he became fluent in Spanish and considers himself Mexican at heart.

He continues to live in the Denver metro area with his wife, Elizabeth, and his four wonderful children.

In his free time, when not working, he can be seen chasing his kids around, going fishing, reading, and enjoying the outdoors of Colorado.

Juan Carlos began his journey in ministry by going on mission trips throughout Mexico and South America, where he developed a passion for the marginalized in society and cross-cultural healing. This passion led him to the Denver Rescue Mission, where he has served in various capacities over the past 15 years, most recently as Vice President of Operations.

Discover More About Redemptive Poverty Work

Most Christians do not intend to exploit others while doing poverty work.

Many of us are motivated to see justice for the oppressed and have a desire to see suffering alleviated.

Good intentions are a great starting point, but they do not automatically lead to healthy poverty work because we are vulnerable to our sin nature.

Healthy poverty work begins when we grapple with the foundational weakness built into our work — the idealistic belief that we can rescue people from their circumstances.
