From Ministry to Missional Church: The Birth of Lives and Souls

Ministry doesnโ€™t always start with a blueprint, it starts with obedience. For us, Lives and Souls Missional Church wasnโ€™t something we set out to build; it was something God breathed into existence as we simply followed His call.

We were in the streets, in community, doing โ€œthe Lordโ€™s workโ€. We showed up where people were hurting, where needs were great, where hope felt distant. We fed the hungry, served the underserved, and prayed for the forgotten. And then, something unexpected happened.

A Movement Began

As we worked, prayer requests started coming in not just for food or shelter, but for healing, for peace, for direction. People werenโ€™t just looking for help; they were looking for hope.

In response, I began to share Godโ€™s Word not in a pulpit, but on sidewalks, in homeless camps, in shelters, in parking lots. The Gospel didnโ€™t need a sanctuary to be powerful; it needed a willing heart to declare it.

A community started forming not a congregation bound by walls, but a โ€œfamilyโ€ bound by faith. People were drawn not to a church service, but to the Spirit of God moving in everyday places. And without even realizing it, we were planting something deeper than an outreach we were planting a missional church.

The Mission Became Clear

What started as outreach (ministry) became mission. God was calling us not just to serve but to send, not just to help but to heal. Lives and Souls Missional Church was born out of this simple yet radical idea:

โ€œLetโ€™s transform ministry, minds, lives, and souls in order to influence the community, culture, and world where we live, learn, work, play, and worship.โ€ (Romans 12:2)

From there our vision became clear โ€ฆ

โ€œTo provide help, restore hope, and allow hearts to heal.โ€

And our mission became even clearer โ€ฆ

 โ€œSaving Lives, Saving Souls.โ€

Is God Calling You to Something Similar?

Maybe this story sounds familiar. Maybe youโ€™re already in the trenches, ministering to people who are searching for something deeper.

Maybe you see:

People looking to you for spiritual direction. The opportunity to build deeper discipleship relationships.

Aspiring leaders rising up within your ministry team.

A deep longing to bring the love of Jesus to more of your neighbors.

But maybe youโ€™re also wondering:

What if church could look different?

What if planting a church didnโ€™t require pews and a steeple?

What if you had the biblical training to take your ministry or outreach further?

If these questions stir something in you, I invite you to explore the Urban Church Planting School. This is for those who feel called to shepherd people in unconventional ways outside the walls of traditional church settings, into the places where the Gospel is desperately needed.

Are you ready to take the next step? Letโ€™s talk about what God is building through you.
