A Safe Home

The fall is always a busy time of year! No matter what my role with World Impact, fall has always been wonderfully crazy. This year, fall means garden prep! The home that I live in now has a great yard, and a community garden is taking shape. I am praying for an in-road with some of the kids in the neighborhood and I think the garden will be a perfect connecting place.

My roommate, Anna and I have been prayer walking with Lisa Entz—World Impact Senior Vice President and our neighbor—and that has brought about new relationships and excitement for how God might use us in this neighborhood. Our prayer walking is very simple: we stroll through the neighborhood, pray for what God lays on our hearts, take the time to meet our neighbors, and sometimes, if they are open to it, we pray for them.

Our community is tight-knit; many have lived here a long time and have grandkids that they regularly take care of. Anna and I hope that these kiddos will be interested in the garden come spring and at harvest times the veggies will go home with the little ones so grandma and grandpa can enjoy the produce.

Because our neighborhood is so tight knit, it feels very safe, but that is a false sense of safety. There have been break-ins, hold-ups, and other violence. Anna and I want our home to be a safe and peaceful place where many are welcome. We do not naively pretend that all is well, and we do not want to become complacent with our actions. This neighborhood is our home but we are very aware of the issues.

So, pray with us that our home is a safe place where people can grow and our garden is blessed with produce that can feed hungry bellies. Pray with us that as we walk and pray, God will allow us to step into divine appointments where we can tell of His love to our neighbors. Pray with us that our community will feel the impact of Christ’s love by our living as He has called us to live. And praise God with us for bringing the finances together for the garden! He provided in such an awesome and unexpected way!
