New Life in Christ

Sometimes we get a bit discouraged by what we see around us in the city (not to mention the rest of the world) do we not? We wonder why God doesn’t show us some Bible-times power. We ask, “Why do the sick stay sick?” or “Why do the lost stay lost?” Why can our big God seem so small? Our prayer is that this story will remind us all that the God of Bible-times power is still alive and on the throne.

Henry is a man who attends our True Fellowship Church in Chester, Pennsylvania. Upon first meeting him, no one would have any reason to believe that he had not been a believer for many years. He is a humble, soft-spoken, loving person. However, things have not always been this way for Henry.

Henry was quite hostile to God not too long ago. His girlfriend, a believer from True Fellowship, wanted to take their son to church with her and Henry would not let that happen. She kept persisting in her desire to take him to church until one day Henry went so far as to threaten her to prevent her from taking their son with her. Besides this battle in their relationship, there were many other difficulties.

Then one day, the Lord brought Henry to Himself! Now He attends a weekly one-on-one Bible study along with the regular services of the church. He is so active the pastor commented that, “Now we can’t get him out of the church!” One amazing Sunday, he came up to the front of the church, and asked his girlfriend to join him. He spoke to the church of the ways he had been hostile toward God, and treated her poorly. Then he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Through her tears, she was able to say, “Yes.”

One of World Impact’s missionaries, Glen Geraghty, had the privilege of assisting in Henry’s baptism not long ago. What a great moment it was to dip him into that water and then bring him up again to new life! Our God is still, no matter what we see around us, a God of power, healing, and redemption. Praise Him!
