God-Given Vision

World Impact empowers urban Christian leaders to fulfill the Great Commission in the city. It is such a joy to be a part of this God-given vision. Since I was a junior in high school, I have been drawn to the city and the Great Commission. I remember like it was yesterday, sitting in the pew of my church listening to missionary Marion Laslow share about Papua New Guinea. At the end of the service, our pastor gave a missions altar call and before I knew it, I was walking down the aisle to sign up. That moment set the stage for where we are now in San Diego empowering leaders to plant churches in the city.

Pillar of Fire, a church empowered through the Evangel School of Urban Church Planting, has the vision to reach our neighbors and nations living in communities around us with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Recently, they held a community outreach with worship, food, a jumper, school supply distribution, and Gospel presentations by the church and four rappers. Enoch, Egypt, MC, and King David all presented the Gospel in cutting-edge ways through their music. Nearly 200 people participated in this event. Last year, most in attendance were from partnering churches but this year many came from the surrounding community.

The thing I loved about this event didn’t even happen at the event. For a good two months, the men from the church hit the streets as well as the bus and trolley lines promoting the event but more importantly sharing Christ. Every Tuesday they were out marching the alleys, bus stops, and streets talking to everyday commuters and gang members alike.

One lady and her children came to the event because of a flyer one of our leaders gave her on the trolley. Pillar is doing its part to fulfill the Great Commission in the city, and it is an honor to be partnering with them.

As you pray for us this month, pray for:

  • Each of our church plants: Pillar of Fire, A Place of Hope, and Puente de Vida.
  • Association churches: Tribe, City Church, Bridge, Covenant, Inner City Christian Fellowship, and Epikos.
  • All to do their part in fulfilling the Great Commission in the city.
  • Unity
