Win the City

Topeka recently held their second TUMI (The Urban Ministry Institute) Commencement Service. The first graduation was a major milestone last year, and the second felt the same.

What was I Thinking?

I remember when I first got the itch to plant a church. It was about 2007 when I was serving as an Associate Pastor at Zion Tabernacle Baptist Church in Oakland.

Spring at LACS

Greetings from Los Angeles Christian School (LACS) and Happy Spring! We are definitely feeling spring fever here in the fifth grade class at LACS.

An Essential Tool

I never really set out to plant a church, but progressively after living and working in the community, God gave me a vision for a multi-ethnic, parish model church that was community focused and gospel driven.

Hennings April Prayer Letter

Recently, TUMI hosted its tenth Satellite Summit. Our theme was Forging Identity: Destroying Strongholds, Forming Christlikeness, and we explored the idea of equipping leaders in their identity in Christ, as well as ways to combat the lies of the enemy as they fulfill God’s call for their lives.

Browatzke April Prayer Letter

One of the greatest joys I have in ministry is to disciple men and to see the Holy Spirit begin to change lives. For the last 10 months I have been visiting John in jail.

Under-resourced urban communities face a variety of challenges. Violence as the primary way to solve conflict, abandoned buildings where businesses used to be, crime and homelessness just to name a few.

Unashamed of our Stories

“How can God ever forgive me?” Through her tears, I could see the dark hold that shame and guilt had on her. Michelle had come to my home for prayer.

Empowered to Live Free

One place I get to experience first-hand how God is transforming the lives of men in our cities is at our annual men’s conference at The Oaks.

Go Boldly

Incredible Kingdom opportunities and realities to advance God’s Kingdom are before us in 2017 and I don’t plan on failing because of caution. I plan to experiment and to experiment boldly.

Built Up Through Evangel

The Wichita ministry recently hosted our third Evangel School of Urban Church Planting. Our team had spent months praying, planning, and walking alongside multiple urban leaders as they were preparing to plant their churches.

Hope

The other day I sat in the chair of a new hairstylist. My regular girl had a full schedule and suggested a friend who she thought I would really enjoy.

St. Louis Ministry Relaunch

St. Louis, Missouri, is a city that has gained notoriety over the years as a dangerous place. It regularly makes the lists of most dangerous cities in America and was the focal point of the nation during the racially charged Ferguson riots.

President’s Day at NCS

Right before our nation celebrated President’s Day in February, Newark Christian School (NCS) celebrated by presenting short biographical monologues of past presidents to an audience of younger students.

Help Us Equip the Next Generation of Church Leaders

Our vision is a world where every community experiencing poverty has a healthy church. But how can that happen if local church leaders don’t have access to Bible-based training and resources in their own languages? Translating these materials is essential for equipping leaders and growing Christ-centered churches.
