If Brooklyn, New York, were an independent city, it would be the fourth largest in the United States. Culture creators, innovators and artists from around the world have now made it their home.
Our budding network of churches is called to plant multiethnic, economically diverse churches in the urban areas next to major global universities.
Sometimes we get a bit discouraged by what we see around us in the city (not to mention the rest of the world) do we not? We wonder why God doesn’t show us some Bible-times power.
The Spirit is on the move in our vision of planting 100 churches in the poorest cities in the East Region of the United States. From Miami, FL, in the South to Newburgh, NY, up North – the urban poor are advancing the Kingdom of God through the planting of local churches.
I had already been walking with the Lord most of my life, but during my travels with these artists I was introduced to the importance of the gospel, sound theology, and its prominence in relation to who God is, who we are as His image bearers, and what He’s called us to do.
“This is the Church. This is the steeple. Open the doors and here are the people.” I was taught this little jingle in Sunday School over 45 years ago in the basement of the church my folks attended.
As I reflect back on all the experiences and opportunities that God has given me throughout 2015, it amazes me how much I have learned and grown over this past year.
Planting churches in communities like Wilmington, Delaware, is full of challenges. That’s why we’re so grateful for your gift below to help provide more urban church planters like him with the critical training and resources they need to build healthy, Gospel-centered churches in some of the roughest communities across our nation.
There has been so much to be grateful for this year at Newark Christian School. For one thing, we are grateful for God’s continued protection as we live and serve in a dangerous neighborhood.
Who will hire ex-offenders? How can formally incarcerated men and women with a gifting in ministry successfully transition back into society? Leadership homes exist to bridge the gap between suburban churches, urban churches and ex-offenders looking to serve the Lord through ministry.
The Lord is moving mightily throughout the World Impact East Coast region and by his grace, we look forward to seeing more “good fruit” from our various missional partnerships.
