One of my most satisfying duties in my role with The Urban Ministry Institute (TUMI) is to observe ministers in training serving in local churches.
As missionaries, we get used to playing first-string positions in ministry. We aren’t always great at them but we are used to filling in necessary and leading positions.
This summer, The Urban Ministry Institute of Los Angeles (TUMI-LA) held its sixth graduation ceremony recognizing the extraordinary achievement of four graduates!
“I am a pastor with leaders who need training. Can you help us?” This was the question we heard over and over again. We were in Bangkok, Thailand for The Global Proclamation Congress this past June.
As an avid fisherman, I love Jesus’ command in Mark 1:17, “Come follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” One of the basics of being a successful fisherman is to go where there are fish and where they are biting.
In Dallas, there is a thriving community of urban leaders being trained through The Urban Ministry Institute (TUMI). One of those students is Les. Les is the director of worship arts ministry at West Dallas Community Church in Dallas, Texas.
Two years ago, having just been transferred into a new prison where we are starting up a TUMI class, Jose was already heading towards earning his way into maximum security prison.
