As the school year at Los Angeles Christian School (LACS) has come to a close I want to praise God for His provision throughout the past several months.
I want to praise God for technology and a new reading program for our school. Accelerated Reader is a reading assessment computer program that allows students to take quizzes on books they read. Our school has wanted this program for a long time, but it is expensive and requires students to have access to computers in the classrooms. God laid it on the hearts of some people to donate specifically to this need and in the fall we were able to purchase this program and some classroom Chromebooks. Our students have been more excited about reading and meeting their reading goals this year.
Many of you may know that California was in a drought for the past several years. The grass on our school playground showed the effects of this and was no longer a nice place for the students to play. In the fall, God sent us a landscaper who donated his time and resources to improve our playground. He even offered sod to us at a discounted rate and new grass was installed just before the record rainfall came this winter. Thanks to this man and several parents and staff who also worked on this project, the students now have a beautiful playground to play soccer on, which is a huge blessing in the city.
For various reasons the administration had to cancel one fundraiser and postpone another this past winter. However, we knew God was going to provide for our needs in other ways. God provided a matching gift for twice as much as we expected, as well as a grant for more than we had requested. The postponed fundraiser never happened, but this money was far more than we could have raised through many fundraisers.
There are many more examples of God’s provision, but I will share just one more. This winter our second grade teacher needed to leave suddenly and we were left without a teacher. Our president had recently spoken at a church where a retired second grade teacher expressed interest in volunteering. She was hired part time to help fill our need. God’s perfect timing and sovereignty were evident. This is also a prayer request for next year. This teacher loves our school but is only available part time. Please pray for wisdom for those making decisions in this situation, and for God’s continued provision of staff for our school.
In a time where changes and unknowns continue to be part of daily life, I can focus on what I do not know and allow it to steal my joy, or I can focus on what I do know. I know that God is good and has been faithful. When I look at what He has done, I can more easily have faith and hope for the future. Thank you for continuing to partner with me and our school in ministry.
