Over fifteen years ago, I benefitted as a suburban Christian male from my church’s involvement in the Promise Keepers movement. Each year, we would take a busload of men from our congregation to wherever the closest rally was being held. While there, I was encouraged by the fellowship of like-minded believers, moved to grow my faith, and challenged to step outside of my proverbial box to encounter Christ at a deeper level. I feel lucky that my church had the wherewithal to participate in such an event. Being a Christian male, I was blessed by having a conference that felt like it was designed for me.
Over the years, World Impact has created a similar concept for urban men and women by hosting Christian regional retreats designed to accomplish the same goals. Each year we have witnessed increased participation from people all over the country and from a variety of backgrounds. These retreats certainly have a different flavor than any other Christian conference in America. The programming, content, and messages are developed to reach the hearts of urban men and women whose life situations are unique to their communities. How the Holy Spirit has used these events has been nothing short of miraculous. We have witnessed declarations of peace from warring factions, transformation from sin, leadership development and even the growth of the Urban Church.
