We recently sat down with Jean Congera, one of our students at The Urban Ministry Institute (TUMI) of Dallas. As Jean prepares to graduate this January, we wanted to share with you his TUMI experience and ministry hopes for the future that you can join us praying for Jean and his family.
World Impact: Tell us about your family.
Jean Congera: I am married and have one daughter. We were born in exile, since then we have never been in our home country. By God's Grace we now have three citizenships: Heaven, the United States, and Burundi. My wife has a gift for Children Ministry. My big passion is preaching, life coaching, and helping those in need. My wife and I are now serving in the African Missionary Fellowship church that meets at Northwest Bible Church (NBC) in Dallas.
WI: How did you hear about TUMI?
JG: While I was working at NBC in Vickery (a refugee community in Dallas) as a community leader, I heard about TUMI from Aaron Armstrong who was the outreach minister at NBC.
WI: What have you enjoyed most about TUMI?
JG: What it means to be a Christian and a church leader. How to depend on God and obey God and How to serve God. I have enjoyed the discussions in TUMI classes and the simplicity of class materials. As English is my second language, I thank God that these materials were prepared so people like me can utilize them.
WI: How has TUMI prepared you for ministry?
JG: TUMI has given me confidence of my faith and I am ready to share to others with confidence. TUMI has helped me to know why some churches do this and others do not and how we can have differences but still work together for His Kingdom.
WI: What are your goals for the future?
JG: To go back in Africa and plant a church with a community development center in the poorest neighborhoods in refugees camps. Being born a refugee and growing up in refugee camps, I feel I am called to go back and help those who are going through what I went through many years ago.
WI: How can we pray for you?
JG: Pray for me that God will provide people, funds, and his anointing that I can go and start doing what God has called me to do. Pray for my family to continue to grow in Christ. Pray for my Internet radio ministry. Pray that we will find materials that can train refugee pastors in their languages both here and in their country of origin. Thank you very much!
Thank you for praying for Jean and all of our TUMI students. Together we can transform the world.
